Last week I had the pleasure of attending my first ever Crossfit session. Man, what a workout! I still hurt🙂 They had me doing everything. From burpies and sprints, to chin ups and double unders.
As I love to skip, trying out double unders was an awesome experience. So what is a double under? If you’ve never hear of a double under before, it’s when you spin the skipping rope under your feet twice in one jump! And if you think it sounds hard, you’re right!!
The cool thing was that I got to try out a different type of rope that I’d never used before. My old faithful has timber handles and a thick, leather cord. It’s heavy, giving your arms a great workout. The Crossfit rope for double unders is a totally different beast though. It’s light, with plastic handles that enclose a steel shaft with a wire cable attached. These speed ropes go fast because they’re so light, so it actually wasn’t super hard to do the double unders once I’d had a little bit of practice.
The rope they gave me was from a brand I’d never heard of before – Inspired Fitness Gear. But I was impressed with it. It had obviously had a tough life in the gym but it was still going strong. The ball bearings and steel shaft moved nicely in the printed plastic handle giving a good, fast spin. The other cool thing is you can easily adjust the length of the rope! I’ve never seen anything like it.
I’m going to buy my own to have a play with. I’ve found them on Amazon, so I’ll post some pics and a better review once I receive it. But for now, I’ll just have to go back to Crossfit and hammer myself!
